`Over sight panel' report on IA fleet acquisition soon

Our Bureau

New Delhi , March 4

THE report of the `over sight committee' which was set up to over see the 43-aircraft fleet acquisition proposal of Indian Airlines (IA) will also be sent to the Prime Ministers office.

Official sources told Business Line that although the over sight committee had not submitted its final report as yet, it was expected soon. The report would also be sent to the PMO as the over sight formation was recommended by them, sources indicated.

The `over sight committee' includes a former Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

IA will have to wait till the proposal is cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) before it can purchase the aircraft.

The Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, had earlier this month indicated that the CCEA meeting for considering the fleet acquisition proposal will be held this month itself.

Incidentally, the purchase proposal was cleared by the Public Investment Board late last year. Soon after the airline had set up a high-powered price negotiation committee to begin talks with the European aircraft manufacturer.
