Airlines Industry & Economy - Tourism More flight options for Indian holidayers Our Bureau
New Delhi , March 5 THE skies are literally opening up for the Indian traveller. With the holiday season coming up, those planning to fly to European destinations and the Far East will soon have the option of not only choosing from more flights operated by Indian carriers to cities in Europe and the US, but also more cities in India to take off from. The national carrier, Air India is looking at operating a daily terminator service on the India-Paris sector and a daily service on the India-Paris-US sector. Indian Airlines, too, is planning to operate more international flights, including a second daily service from Delhi to Bangkok. IA is already operating a daily service on the Delhi-Bangkok-Singapore sector. It now plans to launch a Delhi-Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur flight to provide the passenger a choice of two flights on the India-Thailand sector. The airline is also looking at operating more international flights from different parts of the country, including cities in south India. The new flights are likely to start during the coming summer schedule of IA. A weekly flight between Amritsar and Kabul by Indian Airlines is very much on the cards and could take off by the end of this month. However, AI's plans of operating on the India-Paris-US sector would take some time either during its winter schedule or during its summer schedule next year. Besides, Air India Express, a low-cost airline being promoted by AI, is to take to the skies next month. The airline plans to offer flights between India and the Gulf and some countries in the Far East at fares that are lower than the market rates. Two other private sector airlines Jet Airways and Air Sahara are in the preparation mode for flights to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and London. Besides, Jet is expected to fly to Brussels and onwards to New York in the near future.
