Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 6

THE Cabinet has cleared the State IT Policy that provides for a comprehensive framework for all-round development of the sector by creating a knowledge corridor.

It focuses on mega projects, e-governance and making Andhra Pradesh Technology Services a nodal centre. The policy is based on the inputs provided by the think-tank in various sectors.

The IT policy provides for special incentive for mega projects, which would create employment to more than 1,000 in IT services and 1,500 in the ITES sector. An investment of over Rs 50 crore will also be considered as a mega project. For boosting small and medium sized enterprises, the policy seeks to provide rebate in power tariff and swifter land allotment. It also envisages a recruitment aid of Rs 10 lakh for employing minimum 100 people in IT and 200 in ITES within one year of starting operations in Hyderabad and around 50 km of the city.

The Government plans to facilitate the development of a nanotechnology park near the hardware park in Hyderabad to encourage private enterprises to set up semiconductor manufacturing and related activities including R&D.

Areas such as nanotechnology, smart appliances, next generation communications, broadband Internet equipment and robotics will get specialised packages.

On the infrastructure front, the Government plans to create a knowledge corridor that covers 34 revenue villages spread across 20,000 acres.

To be classified under industrial units, IT companies will be entitled to industrial power tariff and 100-per cent stamp duty exemptions. These IT parks will have the advantage of relaxed floor space index for building construction. These units will also be exempt from the purview of the AP Pollution Control Act and inspections, and are entitled for labour self certification.

With regard to e-governance, the policy has nominated Andhra Pradesh Technology Services to handle all initiatives.
