CCTL feeder operators pare surcharge

Our Bureau

Chennai , March 8

CONTAINER Feeder Operators (CFOs) — operating from Singapore/Port Klang to Chennai and the other way round — have reduced the Chennai Container Terminal Immediate Congestion Surcharge to $15 a TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit-laden) and $7.50 a TEU (empty) from $50 a TEU (laden).

This follows improvement at the terminal, and the reduction takes effect from all vessels discharging at or sailing from CCT on or after March 8, according to a trade notice issued by CFOs.

The surcharge will be completely withdrawn when container vessels' turnaround at CCT returns to not more than two days for a consecutive period of two weeks from today.

Should there be any deterioration in the situation, CFO members reserve the right to immediately re-adjust the quantum within 24 hours, the notice says.

The CFO members are Advance Container Lines (Pte) Ltd, Bengal Tiger Line, RCL Feeder, Samudera Shipping and Simatech Shipping.

It may be recalled that the CFOs imposed the surcharge from February 25.

This is due to `go slow' by CCTL workers, which led to turnaround for ships increasing to 5-6 days from two days.
