Announcements Info-Tech - Software Sundaram-Clayton sets up unit to develop software for WABCO M. Ramesh
Chennai , March 9 SUNDARAM-Clayton Ltd, part of the TVS group, has set up an embedded software division, which will develop software for the company's collaborator, WABCO. WABCO, part of American Standard group of the US, is one the world's major manufacturers of braking and vehicle control systems including electronically controlled braking and vehicle stability systems. Mr H. Lakshmanan, Executive Director, Sundaram-Clayton, told Business Line on Tuesday that WABCO was looking to outsource "a lot of work" to Sundaram-Clayton, including embedded software and product design. "Right now, it has given us 2-3 minor jobs, but there is more coming." Accordingly, the TVS company has started a small software division, with some 10 engineers. But the time for expansion of the division has come. Soon, the embedded software division of the company will have 27 engineers. But "ultimately, we will have about 80 people working in the division," Mr Lakshmanan said. He said it was too early to predict revenues, as they would depend upon the quantum of work WABCO would provide. The software division is incidentally the second unit set up by Sundaram-Clayton exclusively for WABCO business. WABCO also intends to buy a lot of auto parts from its Indian joint venture. Sundaram-Clayton recently set up a subsidiary, Auto India Engineering Ltd, under which all production meant for exports to WABCO would take place. The company expects revenues from auto component exports to WABCO to touch Rs 100 crore in three years.
