Bangalore , March 13

EYEING India's potential in animation business, a group of professionals have launched a training academy with focus on inculcating creative talent to add value to 3D animation work being done now.

India is a major gainer of outsourced work in animation projects, after South Korea and the Philippines.

However, with the animation business set to grow at an annual rate of 30 per cent, India would need a large army of professionals with creative talent. This key element could add a sharper dimension and improve quality of increasing opportunities for India.

Mr Sudhin Shahani, a media and technology entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, said that Ready to Go Animate, a start-up company promoted by a group of media professionals, plans to set up centres in Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata.

It will offer courses that would equip students with proficiency in gaming, product design, character animation and visual effects.

With an initial investment of Rs 2 crore in each of the three centres, Ready to Go Animate would train 200 students a year.

The academy, launched by Mr Arjun Jindal, founder and CEO of Ready to Go Animate and Mr Shahani, will also set up a commercial production company in partnership with the training centres.

It will target various industries that make use of 3D modelling and animation such as pharmaceutical, products and industrial design and consumer electronics, which make extensive use of 3D modelling.

Mr Shahani said that Mr Vincent Edwards, cartoon films veteran from Hollywood, will be the Dean of the academy.

He has directed animated films - including Spiderman, the animated series, and Starship Troopers - for leading production companies such as Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers.

Mr Clifford Cohen, an expert trainer and experience in media and instructional education, will assist the academy through his AnimAction in creating awareness about creativity as the crux of animation art among the children in educational institutions.
