Mumbai , March 18

UNITED Way of Mumbai, a non-profit organisation, has said that it has been able to enrol 20 corporates in the payroll giving corporate programme.

The objective of the programme is to create awareness and engagement of corporate workforce in furthering the community development programme for the underprivileged.

United Way of Mumbai has so far raised a sum of Rs 50 lakh annuity contributions.

Some of the corporates that have joined in include Colgate Palmolive, Citigroup, Tata AIG, e-serve, Kellogg, Kodak and JWT among others.

Payroll Giving is a completely voluntary programme wherein the employees decide the amount, duration, cause and the NGO to which they wish to contribute their money and time.

The focus of United Way of Mumbai will be the under-privileged children, women and civic issues, Mr Sunil Mehta, Chairman, United Way of Mumbai, said.

According to Mr Mehta, corporates are opening up to the idea of working with NGOs on various issues. "There is a much higher degree of corporate involvement in issues other than concerning companies,'' he said.
