Drought — AP opposition stages walkout

Our Bureau

HYDERBAD: The members of the Opposition Telugu Desam and Bharatiya Janata Party staged a walkout from the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday in protest against the Government's failure to tackle drought in the State.

The demands of the TDP included allocation of Rs 230 crore for providing drinking water and seeking Central assistance of Rs 300 crore and 20 lakh tonnes of rice. It also wanted allocation of Rs 50 crore for providing fodder to the cattle and sanction of a special package to artisans in drought-hit mandals.

Replying to a three-day discussion on drought in the House, the Revenue Minister, Mr D. Prasada Rao, said that State Government was taking adequate measure to provide relief to the people in drought-affected areas.
