Outlook Bescom hopes to raise revenue by 11 pc Our Bureau,
Bangalore , March 22 BANGALORE Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Bescom) hopes to increase its revenue by 11 per cent during next year at Rs 4,000 crore over the current fiscal's Rs 3,600 crore. The projection has been assumed at further reduced distribution losses of eight per cent, which Bescom is aiming at. The increase in revenue was based on the current tariff levels. Bescom distributes power to six districts in the State, including Bangalore. The jump in revenue would accrue following improvement in its overall efficiencies, particularly from the reduced distribution losses, improvement in commercial and productivity, which had given the distribution company an edge over its counterparts in nine other cities. Bescom, one of the distribution companies taken up for study based on 22 performance based parameters for determining their efficiencies, was ranked first. It earned the top ranking in the critical areas of distribution losses, which came down to 10 per cent from 15 per cent and with the least receivables in monthly revenue at 0.91 per cent. Reliance Energy, Mumbai, had the distinction of the most ideal HT to LT line ratio at 1:1 against highest collection efficiency at 104 per cent. Delhi Rajdhani with highest units sold per consumer per annum at 4,523 KWH topped the ranking. The distinction for highest average revenue per employee per annum at Rs 67.48 lakh was earned by the AEC Ahmedabad distribution company. SEC Surat with the highest number of consumers of 9,448 per sq. km 1.47 and Baroda with the highest average revenue per kwh sold at Rs 4.94 coveted the top honours. Briefing presspersons about the study conducted by an independent consultant, Dhiya Consulting Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad, Mr Bharat Lal, Managing Director of Bescom, said it was only a macro study, conducted for the first time and needed to be fine tuned to draw exact reasons for improving efficiency of the distribution business. Bescom would be spending Rs 338 crore under the Accelerated Programmed of Development and Reforms to improve distribution efficiency this year.
