New Delhi , March 23

THE Agriculture Ministry will hold a "preliminary discussion" to decide the export potential of the country on April 7, said Ms Radha Singh, Union Agriculture Secretary.

"We are moving towards a virtual policy," she said, adding that a policy decision on the lines of India being continuously present in the international market is required. "We can't be selling wheat one year and withdraw ourselves from the world market the next year. We need to have a stable wheat presence," she felt.

When asked id the Government will provide a subsidy to exporters for competing in the world market, she replied, "We may work towards a subsidy."

Major corporates have been invited for the discussions.
