Certification course for code writers

Bangalore , March 24

HOW good is the software code that a code-writer writes? Is it good enough if certified by the Software Engineering Institute?

Carnegie Mellon University's Software Process guru and Indian software industry's mascot, Mr Watts S. Humphrey, of (SEI CMM Levels fame) is now hoping to extend the rigour of his Personal Software Process to certify code-writers.

Starting this September, code-writers could get certified that their software creation efforts are well planned, and written with discipline and are metrically less defective. "We are talking to universities and institutes to offer their students the PSP course so they are more employable when they complete their education," Mr Humphrey said. "Quite often companies find new recruits know programming but do not necessarily have good personal practices in writing code. The PSP provides specific guidance on how individual engineers can continually improve their performance," he said.

An organisation may have reached the most mature stage of software process program, but individual code-writers may not necessarily write bug-free software, said Mr Humphrey here today..
