New Delhi , March 25

ROTHENBERGER AG, a leading name in the pipe tools and machines segment, on Friday announced the setting up of a 100 per cent subsidiary in India, Rothenberger India Pvt Ltd.

The Indian operations are headquartered in Mohan Cooperative Industrial Estate and will serve three functions for the 55-year old German parent.

It will market Rothenberger products in India, set up warehousing for its products to enable quick delivery and provide product advisory services including technical assistance, onsite training and after sales services.

Though in India only for the last three months, Rothenberger India has managed to tie-up and supply to a few plum infrastructure projects being carried out in the country. According to Mr J.P. Singh, the company will be providing solutions for the Gujarat Government's Sujlam Suflam project, a Kerala Water Authority project, a Japan aid project in Uttar Pradesh, an AusAid project in Gangtok, a Hyderabad Metropolitan Water & Sewerage Board project and the Delhi Metro project.

The Indian subsidiary is looking at clocking sales of around Rs 5-6 crore in the next one year. It, however, puts the Indian market for the piping tools segment at over Rs 1,600 crore, out of which 30 per cent is in the organised sector.

As for starting production in India, Mr Singh said the company would wait and watch the market for two years and depending on the response would think in terms of putting up an assembly unit here.

Mr Andreas Ehrler, Rothenberger Executive Board Director, who was in India for the launch, said that he was bullish about India and that his ties with the country went back 15 years when he first came and worked here.

Worldwide Rothenberger has more than 14 production facilities in Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Baltic States and the US and owns 150 patents and trademarks for its products. The company has 40 subsidiaries located in Europe, US, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America.
