Rally against slum demolitions in Mumbai

Our Bureau

MUMBAI: The National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM) is going to organise a protest rally in the city, asking for succour for victims of the recent slum demolitions in the city.

The State Government had embarked on a slum demolition exercise that was later suspended following political differences within the ruling party. The NAPM rally would be demonstrating on behalf of the 10,000 families who were displaced before the demolitions were stopped.

The decision to organise a protest rally was made by activists at a conference organised by the Girni Rozgar Hakk Samiti in the city on Monday. The protest rally will start at the August Kranti Maidan in the city and move to the Vidhan Sabha. Narmada Bachao Andolan activist Ms Medha Patkar will participate in the rally.
