NetApp's storage virtualisation engine

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad , April 4

STORAGE technology is in for a change with virtualisation coming in. Virtualisation helps enterprise users to extract information from any storage application as if it were seamless.

Significantly, even within the existing storage network, the available capacity is often not fully harnessed. Through virtualisation, it is possible to extract maximum out of the existing storage systems.

The Director of Marketing and Alliances for Asia Pacific, Network Appliances, a storage technology solutions provider, Mr Pankaj Narayanan, told Business Line that the company has designed a unique Storage Virtualisation Engine that helps enterprises not only to optimise their investments in their storage systems but also to access information seamlessly.

The best part of the virtualisation engine is that it enables enterprises to access information irrespective of the storage being HP, Sun or Hitachi. This would in fact bring in a major shift in terms of how storage systems in an enterprise were handled, Mr Narayanan said.

NetApp had last year announced the Storage Grid vision and the launch of enterprise storage software.
