THERE is a proposal to set up an ESI super-speciality hospital in Hyderabad, the first of its kind in South India, to cater to the needs of workers in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, according to the State Labour Minister, Mr G. Vinod.

He said at a press meet here on Monday that the proposal was under the consideration of the Union Labour Ministry and a committee had been appointed to go into the issue. The project cost would be Rs 55-60 crore.

He said 120 more doctors would be appointed for the ESI hospitals in the State in addition to 450 doctors working in them now. A mobile dispensary would be set up in Srikakulam district for the industrial labour at Rajam. Several proposals had been sent to the Union Labour Ministry for setting up more ESI hospitals in the State.

All steps would be taken to improve the functioning of these hospitals in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati.
