New Delhi , April 7

WHIRLPOOL India Ltd is looking to turnaround in the current year by expanding its presence in refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioners.

The company is aiming to achieve a leadership position in the refrigerator and washing machine segment, and be among the top two players in the air-conditioner and microwave oven category in a couple of years.

Further, the company would be sourcing its new range of air-conditioners from Gree of China.

"We have tied up with Gree, the second largest AC manufacturer in the world, which also supplies to markets in North America and Latin America.

"We will source these ACs from the plant in Southern China," Mr Arvind Uppal, Managing Director of Whirlpool India, told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of a new range of ACs and refrigerators.

The company plans to invest significantly in brand building this year and has signed on filmstars Ajay Devgan and Kajol as brand ambassadors. Among the new launches today, a 180-lt `Genius' refrigerator was unveiled in the direct-cool segment at a starting price of Rs 7,500. In the AC category, the 6th Sense Magicool will be priced in the range of Rs 16,500-Rs 33,000 in 1T, 1.5T and 2T capacities.
