THE Maharashtra Government proposes to ban the instant online two-digit lotteries in the State.
The Finance Minster, Mr Jayant Patil, said that the State may approach the Supreme Court as its petition challenging the legal status of online two digit lotteries was rejected by the Guwahati High Court.
He was replying to a question raised by the Opposition benches during the question hour in the Legislative Assembly on the legal status of such lotteries.
The State has paper and online lottery system. The State Government itself runs the popular Maharashtra State Lottery.
A sizeable chunk of the paper and online lotteries in the State is controlled from the North-Eastern States.
Mr Patil said if online lotteries from the other States were to be banned, then the continuance of online lottery from Maharashtra will also have to be reviewed.
Therefore, the Government has decided to approach the Supreme Court.
