Tea Technical snag hits Coonoor tea e-auctions P.S. Sundar
Coonoor, April 15 THE electronic auctions conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) was abruptly halted on Friday due to system failure. When the auctions began with the brokers, Carrit Moran & Co P Ltd, opening the sale, it got blocked mid-way when the buyers complained that the offer details of the catalogue were not displayed on their monitors. Soon, the system failed totally with the brokers unable to access the catalogues. An official of the CTTA said they were advised to conduct the auctions manually. But, with the off-site auto-bid system in operation, many buyers were operating through the computer from outstations. Since they could not be present to participate in the manual auctions, the players expressed their inability to have a representative sale. So, the Board, advised them to decide through the Managing Committee meeting. Accordingly, it was decided to hold manual sale on Saturday and on Monday. The official said that since Mahavir Jayanthi falls on Friday (Aug 22), the auctions for next week had been advanced to Wednesday and Thursday. Because of this, the Teaserve auctions scheduled for Wednesday has been advanced to Tuesday. In Coimbatore also, the system failed today and the auctions were postponed.
