Bangalore , April 15

LOGISTICS company Safexpress has tied up with truck giant Volvo to induct 10 trucks for its transportation needs.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Safexpress, Mr Pawan Jain, told newspersons on Friday that the deal was worth Rs 7-10 crore.

Mr Jain said the introduction of Volvo trucks, FM9 4 x 2, will lead to better and faster ways of delivering logistic solutions to the customers.

The turnaround time of the vehicles will go down to about 25 hours from 48 hours.

Initially, three trucks will be rolled out. The first truck with a 19.65-tonne capacity tractor trailer will run initially between Chennai and Pune.

The Rs 3,000-crore express cargo transportation segment is growing 25 per cent annually.

Volvo tractor trailers are custom-built for Safexpress, and the fleet is designed to carry three times more load.

With an increased payload capacity of 19.65 tonnes, the new fleet will enable increased tonnage amounting to almost 50 per cent.

The Safexpress network covers 522 destinations and operates through a hub and spoke system with 37 super hubs.
