Chennai , April 15

THE first phase of International Tech Park, Chennai (ITPC), developed by Ascendas Pte Ltd, will be ready for fit-outs by May.

ITPC is set in a 15-acre plot and will be developed in three phases. The first phase covers about 5.25 lakh sq ft.

ITPC is a joint venture between Ascendas, the Singapore-based space provider, and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (Tidco).

Ms Chong Siak Ching, President and CEO, Ascendas Pte Ltd, speaking at the topping-out ceremony of the first phase said before the end of this year, Ascendas would have close to four million sq ft of business space across India.

A consortium of Singapore companies is developing the project in Chennai.

Mr Rameshram Mishra, Industries Secretary and Chairman and Managing Director, Tidco, said Chennai was emerging as the destination of choice for information technology companies. The city was also poised to be the gateway to South East Asia.

Besides the development of IT parks in Chennai, tier II cities such as Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi and Hosur are being identified for developing IT space, he said.

Mr Cedric Foo, Singapore's Minister of State for Defence and National Development, said ITPC would have international work-play features such as al fresco cafes and gyms.
