Tea Mixed trend in Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Kochi , April 24 A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust sale witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties. Of the 10,43,000-kg on offer in the dust category, CTC's were steady when the sale opened. It became firm to dearer when the sale progressed. However, it showed a dropping tendency particularly half priced CTC's towards the end. Orthodox Highgrown steadied, while mediums were easier. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 58-70, medium CTC realised Rs 54-57 and below medium were quoted Rs 37-43. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 99-124, while medium BOPD realised Rs 40-42. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 34-37. The leaf sale, however, witnessed only a less general demand and the quantity on offer was 4,32,000 kg. Orthodox highgrown was easier by Rs 2-3. Well made medium Orthodox was steady, while others tended to ease. Exporters were selective. Due to electronic system failure, the sale was interrupted and sale of CTC's and a portion of Orthodox could not be completed. The balance tea will be auctioned along with next week sale on April 27. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-80, medium Orthodox realised Rs 42-62. In the leaf category, Chamraj OP quoted the best prices of Rs 100, followed by Kodanaad CL BOPF by Rs 99. In the dust category, Kodanaad CL BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 124 followed by Craigmore CL BOPD by Rs 114.
