Hyderabad , April 26

THE twin cities are set to have 100 new fish stalls run by women. An initiative of the Andhra Pradesh State Fishermen Cooperative Societies Federation, these stalls will get financial help from the National Cooperative Development Corporation.

Each stall will cost Rs 25,000, including a 55 per cent loan and a 17.5 per cent subsidy. Announcing this at a press conference here, Mr Mettu Prasad, Chairman of the federation, said the Congress Government would try to improve the lot of 80 lakh fishermen in the State.

He said the Telugu Desam Government had neglected the fisheries sector for nine years. This had resulted in the poor show by most of the 564 societies.

The Government has allocated Rs 19.6 crore in the budget for the development of the sector.
