HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has categorically ruled out the privatisation of the State-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).

Speaking at a May Day official function, Dr Reddy said as long as the Congress is in power, it would safeguard the interests of the corporation.

The Chief Minister also announced a slew of benefits for transport workers on the occasion. The ceiling for super speciality treatment under the Employees' State Insurance scheme will be lifted from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

The Janasri Bheema scheme to cover rickshaw pullers and auto rickshaw drivers would come into effect soon, the Chief Minister said.
