New Delhi , May 3

INDIAN pharma exports can grow to $6 billion by 2015 from the current level of less than $2 billion, provided the domestic pharma industry maintains consistency in its present export growth rate of 20 per cent a year.

This has been revealed in a white paper on `Indian Pharmaceutical Industry: Prospects for Growth by 2015' prepared by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

According to the chamber, domestic pharmaceutical companies are upgrading their manufacturing facilities and are also adopting good manufacturing practices, besides obtaining approvals from institutions such as the US Food and Drug Administration. The global pharmaceuticals market today is estimated at an approximate level of $357 billion, against which India's share is about $ 1.5 billion, said the Assocham President, Mr Mahendra K. Sanghi, while releasing the white paper here on Tuesday.
