THE passage has been cleared for the UB Group promoted Kingfisher Airlines to take to the skies with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issuing its Air Operators Permit and giving its nod for its schedule here on Wednesday.

"Kingfisher airlines flight IT 101 will take to the skies from Mumbai and wing its way towards Bangalore on May 9. We will operate three flights a day in either direction. We also plan to operate three flights a day in each direction between Delhi and Bangalore within three weeks of starting the first flight," the UB Group Chairman, Mr Vijay Mallya, told Business Line.

The fare to be charged will be available in the market from mid-night of Wednesday, Mr Mallya said. The airline fares are to be similar to what is charged by Indian Airlines.

The airline is to have an all Airbus fleet that will include both the Airbus A-320 and A-319. While the A-320 will seat 174 passengers, the A-319 will seat 144 passengers.

"We will have 11 aircraft flying by December this year and offer the passenger the best in-flight experience in the sky," Mr Mallya added. The airline has 33 new Airbus aircraft on order including 10-Airbus A-320 and 3 Airbus A-319 on a firm basis. The airline is to offer personal video screens on every seat apart from providing 10 channels of audio music and five channels of video in every screen.
