Kerala Govt bans trawling from June 15

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government proposes to impose the monsoon-time ban on mechanised trawlers within the State's territorial waters for 45 days from June 15.

The Fisheries Minister, Mr Dominic Presentation, announced this after a meeting of representatives of boat owners and unions of traditional fishermen. He sought the co-operation of all parties concerned for the effective implementation of the ban. The State Government will request the Centre to disallow the foreign trawlers from taking to sea during the ban. Mini trawling too would be banned during the period.
