Construction work in progress at Nedumbasseri near Kochi. The acreage under paddy cultivation has dwindled to half over the last four decades. According to Kerala Land Use Board, the acreage under paddy cultivation came down to 3,10,521 hectares in 2002-03 from 5,59,450 hectares in 1990-91.
