E-governance: Oracle to leverage on skills gained in India

Ambar Singh Roy

Kolkata , May 25

ORACLE hopes to leverage on its experience in the e-governance space in India and replicate the model, with necessary customisation, in other geographies such as Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Taiwan and Eastern Europe, according to Mr Krishan Dhawan, Managing Director of Oracle India Pvt Ltd.

Speaking to Business Line in Kolkata, Mr Dhawan said that Oracle had already proved its experience and capabilities in the e-governance arena in a complex developing market such as India. "When we now go to potential clients elsewhere in the world and showcase what we have been able to achieve in India, they are willing to take note and listen to us," he said. The revenue that could be generated on a global scale could be "huge", he added.

According to him, Oracle India has been aiding the e-governance efforts of several States such as West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, the North-Eastern States and Uttaranchal. It has also partnered with the e-governance initiatives of the Gujarat State Electricity Board and Kolkata Municipal Corporation, among other organisations.

Oracle has set up a "E-Governance Centre of Excellence" in Gurgaon to support the initiatives of the Centre, States and local government bodies. "We have a leadership position in the space and have demonstrated what can be done," Mr Dhawan said.

"We see adoption of e-governance increasing in the months ahead," he added.
