The Hindu Business Line : LG Sports to export racing cars to Lanka today

This shipment, according to Mr B. Vijayakumar, Managing Director, LG Balakrishnan & Bros, would be the first export consignment for the motor sport company.

The company has orders for 10 such racing cars. Mr Vijayakumar told Business Line that the remaining nine cars would be shipped within the next 45 days.

For LG Sports, the Formula LGB car is not new. These cars hit the racetrack two years ago. Even while this model continues to draw the attention of drivers on the Indian racetrack, the company is planning to roll out the Formula Rolon Car by July-end.

These launches are aimed at making motor racing affordable for the middle class. "We are looking at providing a sport relative to the economy," he said.

To facilitate the entry of more motor sports enthusiasts, particularly those who could ill-afford to take part in racing, LG Sports imported an old Formula Asia car, which had cost the company Rs 11 lakh. The purchase was intended for copying the safety features and redesigning the car for Indian applications.

Besides rolling out newer racing car versions, LG Sports is also planning to introduce the Formula LGB and Formula Rolon cars in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia and other countries in the South East Asian region.

The company has tied up with General Motors for supply of engine. "GM has assured to supply the engine free of cost," Mr Vijayakumar said.

Stating that the Formula 3 cars are priced at Euro 110,000 and the Formula BMW at 50 per cent of the Formula 3 rate, he said that he is aiming at fixing the price at Rs 5 lakh.

The company has plans to roll out ten cars initially, but is planning to double this number for the Championship Class next year. Mr Vijayakumar also hinted about getting the prototype two-seater and prototype Formula Rolon in the 1600-cc class ready by July-end.
