Supply Chain Management Concor urges shipping lines to make more use of Dadri ICD Our Bureau
Kolkata , May 30 THE Container Corporation of India (Concor) has urged the shippers and shipping lines to make more use of its inland container depot (ICD) at Dadri in preference to the one located at Tughlakabad. Both Dadri and Tughlakabad are located near Delhi. The Concor's appeal was conveyed by one of its chief general managers to the members of Northern India Shipping Agents' Association at a meeting held recently. The reason for Concor's bid to promote its Dadri ICD is understandable. The recent decision of the Delhi Police to clamp restriction from July 1 on movement of transit containers on trailers will render transportation of a large volume of containers between Tughlakabad ICD and the areas outside Delhi's national capital region costly as longer routes have to be taken to access Tughlakabad ICD. Besides, as Concor pointed out, the Dadri ICD is much better placed in terms of facilities. It is spread over 110 hectares compared to 42 hectares of Tughlakabad ICD. Also, it is designed to handle one million TEUs compared to 2.5 lakh TEUs by the one at Tughlakabad. The Dadri ICD is complete with four RTGs, two reach stackers, one sling crane, one hydraulic, two forklifts and 12 tractor trailers. It also offers facilities for fumigation as well as repair of containers and banking operations. EDI (electronic data interchange) too would be available from July 1. It is well connected by rail to various ports. Thus, there is a daily service available to Nhava Sheva/JNPT, and weekly services to Pipavav (every Thursday) and Mundra (every Tuesday). The services to Visakhapatnam port would be available on demand. From Nhava Sheva, the waiting period is only one day for Dadri while it is more than three to four days for Tughlakabad. As a promotional offer, Concor would also offer 15 days free storage for exporters guaranteeing throughput of 600 TEUs over three months and 12 days for a throughput of less than 600 TEUs. For shipping lines, 20 days (excluding arrival and departure) free time would be given for empties. In April, the Dadri ICD saw the arrival of 41 trains and dispatch of 42 trains, with a total throughput of 8,086 TEUs. Till the middle of this month, a total of 36 trains (inwards and outwards taken together) were handled, with a total throughput of 2,756 TEUs.
