SAP to raise headcount

Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 7

BUSINESS software solutions provider SAP plans to increase its headcount in India to more than 3,000 by the end of 2006.

About 70 to 75 per cent of the ramp-up is for its development centre in Bangalore, which currently has about 1,650 employees, according to Mr Leo Apotheker, President, Global Customer Solutions and Operations, SAP. The company's Bangalore centre is its largest outside Germany.

SAP invests 12 to 15 per cent of its annual sales in R&D, and a substantial portion of that is in India, he added.

"India is one of our eight top strategic markets globally. Over the last 15 months we have added 165 new customers," said Mr Apotheker.

SAP's Indian customer base of over 700 businesses includes diverse verticals such as services, retail, BFSI and process manufacturing.

The company sees its SMB business growing between 1.5 to 2 times that of the Indian market. "Indian SMBs are experiencing tremendous growth as the markets both in India and globally are expanding significantly. We understand these challenges and deliver solutions tailored to their unique requirements," said Mr Hans Peter Klaey, President and CEO, SAP, Asia-Pacific.
