The domestic market for ITES/BPO increased, with the estimated value of work outsourced by clients, doubling to $600 million from $300 million in 2003-04.

Bangalore , June 8

THE National Association of Software and Services Companies today announced the ranking of third party ITES/BPO service providers in India.

While WNS led the list, Wipro BPO Solutions came second, and HCL Technologies BPO Solutions third, according to Mr Kiran Karnik, Nasscom President.

The rankings are based on revenues reported for 2004-05 as per the annual Nasscom survey on IT industry performance.

"The Indian ITES/BPO sector has grown to about 410 players, up from 285 in 2003-04 while captive units continue to dominate the market, accounting for over 65 per cent of the value of work offshored to India," Mr Karnik said.

The domestic market for ITES/BPO also increased, with the estimated value of work outsourced by domestic clients, doubling to $600 million from $300 million in 2003-04.

Key drivers for domestic demand were sectors such as telecom and BFSI, with companies competing to enhance their customer fulfilment and other CRM activities.

"Third party providers have managed an ever increasing employee base and expanding portfolio while sustaining their growth rates," said Mr Karnik, adding that the ITES/BPO sector as a whole now employs 3,48,000 people, up from 42,000 in 2001-02. Indian ITES/BPO segment contributes 30 per cent of total IT/ITES exports from India and witnessed a growth of 44.5 per cent to reach $5.2 billion during the year. The ITES/BPO sector is expected to touch revenues of $7.3 billion in the current fiscal.

More integrated IT-BPO contracts are becoming common even as large global players are looking to ramp up their offshore capabilities and Indian players, to build geographically diversified delivery capabilities, including in China, Eastern Europe, Ireland and the Philippines.

Within India, companies are expanding to tier-I and tier-II cities such as Mysore, Nasik, Vizag, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Thiruvananthapuram.
