Bank credit rises Rs 6,919 cr

Mumbai , June 11

GROSS bank credit increased by Rs 6,919 crore for the fortnight ended May 27, to touch Rs 11,44,051 crore, according to the Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

This includes food credit, which increased Rs 1,335 crore to touch Rs 45,727 crore, and non-food credit, which moved up Rs 5,564 crore to reach Rs 10,98,324 crore.

The total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper increased Rs 45,957 crore to touch Rs 11,90,238 crore.

Loans and advances to the central and State governments were Rs 895 crore.
