THE Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to constitute a high-level committee to examine the issue of extending closure times of hotels well beyond midnight, in response to the hospitality industry's request in this regard.
At a review meeting on Tuesday, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, said that the committee would study the timings of the hotel industry, and functioning of night bazaars and market complexes in metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
The Chief Minister's announcement came in the wake of the appeals from these sectors on extending the deadline.
The contention was that the 11 p.m. deadline came in the way in attending to IT professionals who worked beyond midnight.
"By the time they finish work it is past midnight, and they do not get anything to eat as the hotels would be closed down by that time."
Even some IT professionals groups and tour operators have called for extension of the deadline.
The representatives argued that their timings were erratic, as they needed to match the demands of the Western market, a Government release said.
