New Delhi , June 21

WITH the economy booming, European aircraft manufacturer, Airbus Industrie has increased its estimate of the number of aircraft India will need by 2023.

Addressing a press conference here, on Tuesday, the company's Vice-President, Sales, Mr Nigel Harwood, said India would require 570 aircraft valued at over $ 55 billion by 2023. "Airbus expects to win at least half of this market," Mr Harwood said. Airbus had earlier predicted that India would require about 400 aircraft by that year.

The manufacturer estimates that India will require at least 20 Airbus A-380 size aircraft with a capacity of more than 500 passengers. The largest demand of 371 aircraft is likely to be for single-aisle planes.

Responding to questions, Mr Harwood said that Airbus expects to get at least two more orders from India for its double-decker Airbus A-380 aircraft.
