Letters Spare independent directors
The current move to bring to book unscrupulous promoter directors of fraudulent and vanishing companies is welcome. But, a disquieting aspect is that in the process, a number of independent directors of such companies also get caught in the net. Their only fault is that they join the companies without running stringent checks on the credentials of the promoter directors. One hopes the authorities would go soft on independent directors as such rigidity would be detrimental to the cause of corporate governance. N. Ganga Ram Mumbai
