Kolkata , June 23

THE Globsyn Group, in association with Intelligent Infrastructure Ltd, is setting up a `work habitat' at an estimated investment of Rs 150 crore.

Christened Globsyn Crystals, the work habitat is "designed to spread smiles and counter attrition". It would be set up over a two-and-a-half acre plot at Sector V of the Salt Lake Electronics Complex here. The facility is expected to be operational by March 2007, according to Dr Bikram Dasgupta, Chairman of the Globsyn Group.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Dr Dasgupta said Globsyn Crystals would be spread over an area of 6-lakh sq.ft. and have parking space for 400 vehicles. The idea behind the initiative is to create a work habitat with facilities for "life-enriching services". The ultimate aim is to contain attrition by providing a conducive work habitat to IT professionals, complete with food courts, shopping malls, clubs, yoga rehabilitation centres, etc.

"Attrition has emerged as a major area of concern for IT companies and a major challenge before them now is to retain employees. This becomes easier when the work environment blends efficiency with creature and soul comforts. When the workforce is a place of learning as well as leisure, it helps to keep attrition at bay," Dr Dasgupta said.

According to him, space at Globsyn Crystals would be rented out at the rate of Rs 33 per sq.ft.

All services that would be available would be outsourced to parties having domain expertise in their respective fields, he said.
