New Delhi , June 23

THE price war in the mobile market has further intensified with Hutch offering a handset, a cellular connection and free talk time for a one-time fee of Rs 1,698.

This is one of the cheapest bundled offerings in the market and comes close on the heels of an offer from Tata Teleservices for Rs 1,999.

The Hutch offer is valid for both pre-paid and post-paid users in Delhi only. For pre-paid users, the offer includes a free SIM card worth Rs 99 and free talk time of Rs 600 spread over a 12- month period. For post-paid users, it offers free talk time worth Rs 700 over 14 months.

Both the package is bundled with a Motorola C115 mobile handset, which has ergonomic keypad, internal antenna and a battery that provides 8 hours of talk time. The effective price of the handset comes to Rs 999.

Though the entry fee in the Tata package is higher, the effective price of the handset, manufactured by Huawei, is only Rs 499 since it is bundled with free talk time worth Rs 1,500.

Reliance Infocomm also has launched a package, which offered an LG handset and free talk time worth Rs 1,000 for an upfront payment of Rs 1,999.

Regarding the offer, Mr Sanjoy Mukerji, Operations Director, Hutch Delhi, said, "This is an offer that is extremely relevant to the first time mobile user. The initial deposit and the cost of the handset are the two major cost barriers for a new user. We have waived the deposit and activation fee on a post-paid connection entirely, lowered the upfront handset cost and offered free talk time as a value benefit to all customers."

Hutch's main competitor in Delhi - Airtel - has a bundled package that offers a Motorola handset, free talk time worth Rs 700 and free SMS worth Rs 1,400 for Rs 2,100.
