Petroleum HPCL expects to regularise Euro-III supply in Kolkata soon Our Bureau
Kolkata , June 27 HINDUSTAN Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) expects to regularise supply of Euro - III fuel in Kolkata shortly. Admitting a short supply situation in the city, sources in HPCL said that constraints in transportation logistics coupled with delay in commissioning the Mumbai refinery, which was shutdown for maintenance after a gap of five years, had resulted into a temporary short supply. The problem has been aggravated by the fact that Kolkata is the only city in the eastern region to which Euro-III fuel is supplied. According to sources, though HPCL now has Euro-III fuel manufacturing capacity both at Mumbai and Vizag refineries, supply is less than the demand. While the Euro-III capacity of Vizag refinery has now been augmented, the company meets additional requirement through imports at Mumbai and Vizag ports. This ensures smooth supplies to both western and southern markets. For supplies to the rest of the markets, the company either transports fuel from Mumbai or depends on exchange programme with Indian Oil. Supplies to Kolkata are now met through imports in Mumbai, which are then sent to Haldia port through coastal services. Accordingly any unforeseen delay in imports or at Haldia port affects the supply schedule, sources said, adding that such situations are unlikely as the Mumbai refinery had recently resumed operation.
