Singapore PM to sign 2 pacts

New Delhi , June 27

INDIA and Singapore will sign two agreements during the three-day official visit of the Singapore Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, to India starting Tuesday.

The first agreement would be the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) and the second would be Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), according to an official release.

Mr Loong will meet the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday evening. The two Prime Ministers would discuss a range of bilateral and multilateral issues including the exchange of visits, bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the CECA, security and defence cooperation, regional cooperation within the Asean framework and UN reforms.

The CECA is an integrated package comprising an FTA, a bilateral agreement on investment promotion and protection, an improved double taxation avoidance agreement and a work programme of cooperation in healthcare, education, media and tourism.
