Air France, Air Canada too hike fuel surcharge

Our Bureau

New Delhi , July 5

THE northward movement in global oil prices has forced at least two more airlines — Air France and Air Canada — to hike the fuel surcharge.

In a statement, Air France has said that the fuel surcharge on long haul flights will increase to euro 4 or Rs 215 on tickets sold on or after July 19.

This means that a passenger purchasing a ticket on the Delhi-Paris-Delhi sector will pay a fuel surcharge of Rs 430. The increase in fuel surcharge will be withdrawn as soon as the price of the barrel goes below $50 for 30 consecutive days.

Similarly, Air Canada has increased the fuel surcharge to $30 for a one-way long haul flight. Currently, a passenger has to pay a fuel surcharge of $21.

Several leading airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa, and the US airline, Delta, have announced a hike in the fuel surcharge during the last few days.
