Pune , July 6

MAHINDRA & Mahindra on Wednesday set off fresh action in the pick-up utility vehicle segment by announcing the launch of its Maxx Pik Up Flat Bed.

The Flat Bed would first be launched in Maharashtra, which is the biggest market for this category, and where the company commands over 60 per cent of the market. It would be launched elsewhere in the country after three months.

Announcing the launch here, Mr Bipin Datar, General Manager - Sales, Automotive Sector, said the new model wouldadd to the company's sales significantly by tapping niche markets with its absolutely flat cargo-box opening on three sides for effortless loading and unloading.

"The vehicle has been designed to address the commercial and small entrepreneur segments with its attributes of space, fuel economy, comfort and value for money pricing," Mr Datar said. The Maxx Flat Bed, powered by a 63-HP DI turbo diesel engine, is priced Rs 4.22 lakh ex-Pune and offers the highest payload of 1,160 kg in its category.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mahesh Kulkarni, Brand Manager, said M&M had sold 32,000 pick-ups last year and the Maxx Flat Bed would add another 500 units every month.

With competition heating up in the segment, the company is luring potential buyers with attractive schemes such as a Rs 50,000 down payment followed by payment in 59 instalments.
