Hyderabad , July 7

SATYAM Computer Services today announced it has set up a specialised 25-member team to support critical IT outsourcing projects in the Asia-Pacific region, thus flagging off its new global sourcing initiative.

The company plans to possibly replicate this model in other parts of the world. This team will be based out of Satyam's Asia Pacific (APAC) headquarters in Singapore.

The global sourcing initiative has hired senior consultants and IT specialists from five Asian countries.

They include senior functional consultants and experts in oil and gas, fast moving consumer goods , travel and logistics and the public sectors. Responding to queries from Business Line, a Satyam spokesperson said "these teams would support Satyam's global customers to maintain their production systems which can't afford any lag in downtime." Global sourcing initiative is an organisation-wide initiative where Satyam is working towards increasing the non-Indian employee-base. This recruitment drive inducted 25 senior level functional experts from five Asian countries, 7 from Singapore and others from Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

The Head at Satyam's Asia-Pacific operations, Mr Virender Aggarwal, in a statement said, "Global sourcing is a vital element in Satyam's growth. Singapore, with its highly developed skill force and cultural diversity, was the logical choice for us to host such a team for rapid deployment."

The Satyam Senior Vice-President, Human Resources, Mr Hari Thallapali, said "to cater to our increasingly cosmopolitan clientele, we infuse the same diversity into staff".

Satyam's Singapore operations has 225 full-time staff, out of a total 1,500 in the Asia-Pacific operations.
