Clubbing of Central schemes for textile parks promotion in 2 months

Coimbatore , July 11

THE amalgamation of various Central incentive schemes for promotion of textile infrastructure parks across the country will be achieved within the next two months, according to Mr R. Poornalingam, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles.

"The Cabinet committee approval for effecting the changes in the mode of these incentive schemes is awaited and the clubbing of these schemes would be through within two months," Mr Poornalingam said.

Talking to newspersons at the sidelines of a workshop on jute products organised by the Jute Manufacturers' Development Council here on Monday, the Textile Secretary said that with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) now taking a lead in promoting textile parks, the whole process of textile infrastructure projects development and the promotional schemes appended to them will become centralised.

He said once the fusion of schemes has been achieved, the ambit of infrastructure parks scheme could be widened to cover the entire sector irrespective of whether it catered to decentralised or non-decentralised sectors or their diverse manufacturing processes like weaving, processing or apparel making.

The Union Government is keen IL&FS assumes the role of a nodal agency for promotion of these textile parks. The latter has already initiated dialogues with the promoters of various weaving parks in Tamil Nadu. It is said that the IL&FS is contemplating taking up promotion of nine such textile parks under private-public partnership during the current fiscal.

Mr Poornalingam, who earlier inaugurated the workshop on `novelty jute products with coir and silk blend,' said with the Planning Commission giving its `in-principle' approval, the Technology Mission on Jute is likely to take off within two months.
