Oilseeds & Edible Oil World soya output seen steady Our Bureau
Mumbai , July 13 WORLD oilseed production for 2005-06 is projected at 378.66 million tonnes (mt), little changed from the previous year, despite an imminent decline in soyabean production in the US because of lower acreage and lower yield caused by weather aberrations and rust disease. In its latest estimate of world agricultural supply and demand, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) projected soyabean production in the US at 2,890 million bushels, down from 3,141 million bushels of 2004-05 as yields are expected to be lower at 39.9 bushels per acre (42.5 bu/ac). Of the global soyabean production estimate of 219.71 mt (214.32 mt), contribution of the US would be 78.6 mt, down from previous year's record 85.5 mt. There are continuing concerns about the fate of the US soyabean crop. The adverse impact of soyabean rust disease is still being assessed. As the crop is actually made or marred in August, weather conditions in the coming weeks would be crucial. While Argentina's soyabean crop is projected at 39 mt. (same as pervious year), that of Brazil is seen by USDA bouncing back to 62 mt versus 51 mt of 2004-05. The crop due for planting later in the year would be available not before February next year. Soyabean crop of China is placed at 17 mt (18 mt). World vegetable oil production in 2005-06 is estimated at a new high of 111 mt, up from 107.9 mt of 2004-05.
