Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Victorian Government, Australia, has announced that it has named a subsidiary of Keane Inc and its consortium as the preferred bidder to deliver and maintain a public transit ticketing system.

The deal, inclusive of two years of development work and ten years of operation and maintenance, is estimated at Rs 1,600 crore (A$494 million).

This micro-payment smartcard technology ticketing system will support Victoria's multi-modal network of 270 railway stations, 480 trams and 1,650 buses that services more than 410 million journeys each year. Scheduled to go live in 2007, this enables travellers to access all types of public transit using a single micro-payment smartcard.
