Coonoor tea trade turnover rises in H1

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , July 14

THE turnover realisation of the auctions conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) in the first half of this year has increased by 9.71 per cent over the same period a year ago.

An analysis of the market reports shows that the increase is because of the rise in both volume and price. But the increase would have been much more if the prices have maintained the same momentum as in the first quarter.

Between January and June, a volume of 78.67 crore kg of tea was sold against 71.71 crore kg last year. The prices realised were up Rs 1.15 a kg to touch an average of Rs 40.55. Consequently, the turnover rose to Rs 78.67 crore from Rs 71.71 crore.
