VEHICLE owners can heave a sigh of relief. Petroleum retail traders, who had planned to go on an indefinite strike from Monday, have called off their strike following some interim relief granted by the Government.
The dealers were planning to go on an indefinite strike as their demands for higher dealer commissions on gasoline and diesel sales had been meeting deaf ears till now. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Ashok Badhwar, President of Federation of All India Petroleum Traders (FAIPT), said, "we have decided to call off the strike as some interim relief has been granted to us."
The traders will now get a commission of Rs 848 per kl (up from Rs 707 per kl) for petrol and Rs 509 per kl (up from Rs 425 per kl) on diesel. The demand for giving the commission on percentage basis has been referred to a high-level committee to study, he said. "We have been asked to submit our case before IIM, Ahmedabad," he said.
Dealers are seeking 5 per cent of the invoice value from the government. Currently, Mr Badhwar said, dealers are getting 1.59 per cent of the invoice value from state oil marketing firms in the case of gasoline and 1.27 per cent in diesel.
