Continental in talks with Wipro to outsource IT needs

New Delhi , July 22

GERMAN automotive major Continental AG today said it is in discussion with Wipro to outsource some of its IT-related requirements, and a final decision would be taken in a few months.

"We are in talks with Wipro for sourcing one of our IT job and a final decision will be arrived at in the next 2-3 months," Mr Paul Schwefer, Group CIO of Continental AG, Germany said here.

On the nature of work that would be outsourced to Wipro, he said it related to maintenance of some of the applications, which had become outdated.

He refused to divulge the deal size but said it would be "below $ 10 million".

"If successful, Wipro will have to maintain these applications for us, say for the next three years," Mr Schwefer said. The work would initially involve deploying Wipro personnel on-site in Germany.

Continental AG, is the second largest automotive supplier in Europe and among the top 10 worldwide. The company posted sales of Euro 11.5 billion in 2003 of which 61 per cent related to original equipment sales. Continental employs 68,829 people of whom 27,531 are based in Germany and 10,324 in North America.
