Zee alleges sabotage of phone services during game show

New Delhi , Aug. 8

PRIVATE broadcaster, Zee, on Monday alleged sabotage of phone services leading to disruption of connectivity before the launch of its new game show, Houzee.

The interactive game show went on air at noon on Sunday but with lots of technical glitches. While a Tata Teleservices line was cut in Mumbai, mobile phone networks through Hutch and Airtel too were severely compromised from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spice users in Punjab and Reliance users in eastern India also faced similar problems. "This hit participation in Houzee, as all the messages to the number 7575 could not be delivered," said a company spokesperson.

Houzee takes the traditional housie game to viewers across the country through interactive SMS participation. Participants can take part through four service providers, viz. Airtel, Reliance, Hutch and Spice Telecom.

In an official statement, Mr Sanjay Aggarwal, Chief of operations and technology, Play TV, said, "At around 2 p.m., all systems were automatically rectified. We've never faced such a situation in the last year-and-a-half, which is why we cannot rule out sabotage. Given the stakes involved we did anticipate such a problem. We were able to go on air as scheduled as we had a backup MTNL ISDN line."
